[Manhwa Review] Dr Frost

A researcher, detective, and psychologist have something in common. All of them involved a huge excess of OBSERVATION on their main activity.

Composed by Lee Jong-bum, Dr Frost is a Korean manhwa about a young psychologist who couldn't feel sympathy and affection due to his injury on his frontal lobe as a child. However, his left brain has developed in significant way so that his logic is excel. That condition makes him a professor in such a young age.

*And now, I just finished the latest chapter (ch.88)  that was available on mangapark (the webtoons's chapter is a way left behind for this title)*

He became the head of counselling office in Yong-Gang University. Together with his assistant, Yoon Sung-Ah, they solved psychological cases, [just like Sherlock Holmes and Watson] from dependent personality disorder, delusional disorder, into borderline personality disorder. Those cases were described *and solved, ofc* in a well thought manner. *good research from the author, he really has done his homework*

*the cute* Frost and Pavlov (aren't they look alike ^,^)
This manga was opened with a quote from a famous psychologist Gordon Exner, "There are six billion people on earth, all of their psychological states, tendencies, and personalities are so vastly different..." or in other words "All human are unique".
However, on his last thesis that was written before he died, he changed that statement into, "Human are all the same". He claimed that "In truth that is just six billion ways of expressing a person.".
Departed from that statement, this manhwa generalized  *and analyzed* the practical case based on  the theoretical understanding.

People always thought that they know themselves better than other. However, there are always a certain point when they bump into a trouble and their mental was somehow affected by it. This is when they need a psychologist to help them resolved their problem. It doesn't mean that they are crazy (psychologist and psychiatrist are different anyway). It just as normal as how people need meditation to balancing their crowded life. (Even a common case such as insomnia or stress needs some psychological treatment sometimes)

Those psychological symptoms are basically quite normal and *usually* can be self-healed just by doing some simple behavioral self therapy or meditation. However, sometimes there were cases when self-therapy didn't work or when the person realized that there is something wrong with him/herself but couldn't know what/why. Those are the time when the psychologists are needed.

As an example, there was a dependent personality disorder case on this manhwa. This is the case when a person are in excessive needs of one's approval. *Basically, asking other's opinion over some matter is natural. However, if it was done in an superfluous manner, then it is the time when a psychologist is needed.* Most of the time, a person with dependent personality disorder couldn't make everyday decision and they would ask other even for a simple things such as "what kind of shoe should I wear today". The fear of being abandoned or separated from important individuals in his/her life would made this person voluntarily giving abundant care to others that make this person engage in a submissive behavior. This illness *based on this manhwa* could be caused by an overprotective parents. The healing method, of course, by solving the root of the problem first.

Anyway, during reading this manhwa, there is one thing that interested me. That the psychologist himself/herself might also be the one who has a psychological issue as well. They are curing themselves by observing their problem through their patients. Interesting enough.

In short, reading this manhwa is like reading a detective story. The passion that they gave during the observation, collecting the patient's information piece by piece, until finally they reach the last puzzle piece and solve the case.

So, if you are into detective kind of story *like me* then I would definitely recommend this manhwa. The analysis that they made was based on a real literature study (yeah, I actually wiki-ed on some of the definition :p ), not just a piece of crap that wrapped like a psychological analysis just to looks cool.

Last words,
Keep your passion. Keep observing. :)
